Dr. Till Stenzel and Kevin Sara, respectively CEO and Chairman of TuNur Ltd, published in The Energy Industry Times an article about the realization of the vision of exporting solar power from North Africa to Europe through the TuNur project. The article explains the advantages of CSP compared to other renewable energy such as PV and wind. TuNur project is the first gigawatt-scale solar export project between Tunisia and Europe which has already achieved major milestones. It is also endorsed by DESERTEC Foundation and already many multilateral banks and strategic equity investors have declared their interest in financing this project.
On the 8th of February 2013, Tunisian daily newspapers La Presse and El Maghreb published articles explaining the TuNur project and the technology deployed, clarifying the water and the land issues and stressing on its positive impacts especially environmental and economic. Both articles highlight the impatience and the support of local people to the implementation of the project.

If Europe decides to turn away from nuclear and other sources of energy, as current trends tend to indicate, where will the continent look to power its future? Some say: Tunisia.
TuNur, a joint-venture company between NurEnergie, a solar power plant developer based in England, and a collection of Tunisian investors, has seized upon the unmet export market of solar energy from Tunisia to Europe. It establishes the first solar export scheme between Tunisia and Europe.
OILPRICE - January 27 2012. By James Burgess
It seems that more and more large, renewable energy projects are being announced each day. The most recent is a giant solar power plant that will be built by Top Oilfield Services, a Tunisian oil and gas engineering company, and Nur Energie, a British solar firm. The project, called TuNur, will consist of a two gigawatt concentrated solar power (CSP) park.
SMARTPLANET - January 27 2012. By Mark Halper
Top Oilfield Services, a Tunisian oil and gas engineering company, is joining with Nur Energie - a British solar firm with a French name - to build a giant solar park in the Tunisian desert that will transmit electricity under the Mediterranean to Italy.
The joint venture, called TuNur, plans 2 gigawatts of capacity, nearly equal to 2 modern nuclear power stations.

Wow, the Desertec vision is barreling into realization! A clean energy future where the world’s deserts supply huge amounts of solar energy to the whole of humankind is truly becoming reality. Now the fourth Desertec project, by far the largest-ever solar plant in the world – for 2,000 MW of solar power – is to be built in Tunisia. The plant will produce twice the amount of power of an average nuclear power plant.
BLOOMBERG - May 9 2011
In an article looking at the future of the UK energy supply David Kennedy, CEO of the Commitee on Climate Change states that the UK Government should look at cheaper ways of meeting the EU targets by such means as "buying renewable energy certificates from other European nations, and purchasing concentrated solar power from a project being developed in Tunisia by London-based Nur Energie Ltd."

Greek Solar Project is Awarded Grant by the European Commission
Nur-Moh Heliothermal SA, the joint venture owned by UK based solar energy developer, Nur Energie Ltd, and Motor Oil Hellas, one of Greece’s leading energy companies, has officially been awarded a €42 Million grant. The grant comes from the ‘NER 300’ program, a financing instrument jointly managed by the European Commission, European Investment Bank and Member States.
The “EU Grid Integration of Tunisia-Based Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plant” study, conducted by TuNur with Imperial College of London and DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability investigates the impacts of integrating 2GW of electricity generating capacity from TuNur’s CSP power plant in Tunisia into the European electricity system via an HVDC link from Tunisia to Central Italy. The study shows that solar imports from North Africa technically feasible and brings several grid integration benefits to the European electricity system.
Kevin Sara, CEO of Nur Energie Ltd and Chairman of Tunur Ltd discusses Tunur, the 2000MW solar power plant and explains the benefits and opportunties such a project will bring Tunisia by creating a new industry and a signficant number of long term jobs thus improving the socio economic cllimate of the region.
