The report, Solar Thermal Electricity Global Outlook 2016, 4 th Edition, is released today by Greenpeace International, SolarPACES and ESTELA (European Solar Thermal Electricity Association). As the third IPCC report seeks to explain how global warming could be kept below the 2C threshold from pre-industrial levels, Hug in the Snug sits down with Sir David King, the Foreign Secretary's Special Representative for Climate Change, to ask if technology can take us out of this climate mess. Energy intelligence published in its July issue “Tunisia Eyes Renewables, Efficiency as Gas output declines” where it depicts the energy situation in Tunisia and the strategies to face gas reserves decline and energy demand increase. As part of Tunisia energy strategy, solar export is being considered through the launch of TuNur project which is currently being considered for an agreement with the Tunisian Government.

Dr. Till Stenzel and Kevin Sara, respectively CEO and Chairman of TuNur Ltd, published in The Energy Industry Times an article about the realization of the vision of exporting solar power from North Africa to Europe through the TuNur project. The article explains the advantages of CSP compared to other renewable energy such as PV and wind. TuNur project is the first gigawatt-scale solar export project between Tunisia and Europe which has already achieved major milestones. It is also endorsed by DESERTEC Foundation and already many multilateral banks and strategic equity investors have declared their interest in financing this project.
On the 8th of February 2013, Tunisian daily newspapers La Presse and El Maghreb published articles explaining the TuNur project and the technology deployed, clarifying the water and the land issues and stressing on its positive impacts especially environmental and economic. Both articles highlight the impatience and the support of local people to the implementation of the project.

This week, Nur-MOH SA, a joint venture between CSP developer Nur Energie and Greek energy heavyweight Motor Oil (Helas), was given the green light by Greek regulatory authorities to build a 38MW CSP plant on the island of Crete. The project, which will deploy BrightSource Energy’s LPT 500 technology, is poised to be the largest CSP tower installation in Europe.

Further to the successful inclusion in the shortlist of European Network of Transmission Operators (“ENTSO-E”) Ten Year Network Development Plan (“TNYDP”) 2016 (November 2015), TuNur has now been included in the 2016 Executive Report of the TYNDP.
In November 2015 the European Network of Transmission Operators (“ENTSO-E”) confirmed that the TuNur application for the Ten Year Network Development Plan (“TNYDP”) 2016 has been accepted and the project is successfully included in the shortlist.

Greek Solar Project is Awarded Grant by the European Commission
Nur-Moh Heliothermal SA, the joint venture owned by UK based solar energy developer, Nur Energie Ltd, and Motor Oil Hellas, one of Greece’s leading energy companies, has officially been awarded a €42 Million grant. The grant comes from the ‘NER 300’ program, a financing instrument jointly managed by the European Commission, European Investment Bank and Member States.
The “EU Grid Integration of Tunisia-Based Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plant” study, conducted by TuNur with Imperial College of London and DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability investigates the impacts of integrating 2GW of electricity generating capacity from TuNur’s CSP power plant in Tunisia into the European electricity system via an HVDC link from Tunisia to Central Italy. The study shows that solar imports from North Africa technically feasible and brings several grid integration benefits to the European electricity system.

Responding to the Department of Energy and Climate Change `Call for Evidence’ on their Renewable Energy Consultation, London based Nur Energie Ltd has recommended that the UK quickly authorises the import of renewable solar energy from North Africa.

Solar project developer Nur Energie Ltd. today announced the acceptance of the technical terms for the connection of its “TuNur” utility-scale solar export project from Tunisia into the Italian power network.
